The LONDON ORATORY SCHOOL CHORAL SOCIETY was founded to give LOS parents, staff, ex-pupils, and friends an opportunity to participate in the singing culture of the school, and has a membership of around forty. The Society is open to anyone with an interest in singing, and no auditions are held. New faces are always welcome!
The Choral Society combines with the pupils in the School Choir to present two large scale concerts a year in central London Churches, often with orchestra. Recent works performed include Mass settings by Mozart and Haydn; Mendelssohn Elijah; Haydn Creation; Handel Messiah; Verdi Requiem, John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit; and settings of the Gloria by Poulenc and Vivaldi. In the summer term we often perform a lighter programme including spirituals, opera choruses, and popular songs. (See photographs and former concert posters below.)
The emphasis is on enjoyment, and people of all musical experiences, however limited, are welcome to join. The rehearsals are each Wednesday in the School Junior House choir room, commencing at 7.00pm and finishing at 9.00pm. Entrance to the school on foot is via Seagrave Road, and parking can be accommodated by arrangement.
There is a break for refreshments, and various social occasions are arranged, including a Christmas party. If you are interested in joining or just popping along to a rehearsal, contact Derek Saunders dsaunders@los.ac and James Speakman jspeakman@los.ac.
